The Wigwam Resort - Litchfield Park, Arizona

Located just 20 minutes west of downtown Phoenix, the legendary Wigwam Resort is situated on 463 acres in the quaint village of Litchfield Park. The resort features 331 adobe-style casitas, three championship golf courses, nine tennis courts, two pools, four restaurants, 30,000-square feet of meeting space and an array of recreational activities.

Having celebrated its 70th Anniversary last November, The Wigwam was originally built in 1918 as a company lodge for the executives of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. When it was discovered that top-grade cotton extended the life of rubber tires, Goodyear commenced importation of fine Egyptian cotton from the Nile Valley. World War I closed shipping lanes, so a domestic cotton source was needed. Goodyear sent a team of executives to Arizona, led by Paul Weeks Litchfield, to research the climate, irrigation and growth patterns along the Salt River Valley and found it was similar to those in the Nile Valley. Hence, Litchfield purchased 16,000 acres along the Agua Fria River in 1916 to begin cultivation. The rest is history.

Considered one of Arizona's most historic resorts and tourism landmarks, The Wigwam's legendary service and southwestern charm has remained a cornerstone in the resort industry.
